FAQ

General Questions

Why should I put one of your triathlons on my race schedule?

We offer five quality triathlons in five beautiful locations across Western Canada. Our race series is new and has shown growth every year. Our directors and staff include former Olympic coaches, competitive triathletes and sports management experts. We dedicate ourselves to offering athletes the best race experience possible.

I’m a beginner triathlete and I’m not a very confident swimmer. What are my options?

We recommend that you chose the shortest distance event (the Sprint race) or consider a relay.  If you choose to participate in the individual event, you can opt to have a special coloured swim cap that will identify you as a weaker swimmer and you will receive extra attention on the swim course in case you suddenly need assistance. We employ lifeguards and personnel in boats for our races, and we ensure the safety of all our participants.

I’m from outside of British Columbia, Alberta, or Canada, and am registered with my provincial or state Triathlon organization. Do I still need to pay a race day insurance fee?

Yes. Only current members for Triathlon BC or the Alberta Triathlon Association are covered for race day insurance.

Do you offer any help for Para triathletes?

It will depend on the race and the help required. Contact the Series directly for more details r.trotter@triseries.ca

What are age restrictions for younger participants?

*(please see below for how age is determined for the event)

Relay Teams (Super Sprint, Sprint, or Olympic): 12+

Relays Teams (Long Distance – Half): 16+

Individual Super Sprint: 14+

Individual Sprint: 14 +

Individual Olympic: 18+

Individual Long Distance (Half): 18+

*Age Determination

Athlete age is determined as of December 31st of the current year of competition in accordance with International Triathlon Union (ITU) guidelines. For example, an athlete who is 11 years old

on the day of competition, but turns 12 on or before December 31st of the current year, will be considered 12 years old.

Can I use a wetsuit?

Our races follow the ITU guidelines, which state that wetsuits cannot be used if the water is above 22 degrees celsius, and are mandatory below 14 degrees celsius. It is highly unusual for any of our races to ban wetsuits, as the water temperature typically will not exceed 22 degrees in any of our races. However, it is possible so be prepared to swim with or without a wetsuit!

Registration Questions

I bought a season’s pass but now am injured and cannot run this year. What are my options?

If you are unable to compete in our races we do not offer a refund. However, if you can provide a doctor’s note, we will allow you to move this season’s pass to next season for a $50 transfer fee (plus HST and processing). However, if partway through the season you recover and want to run one of our races, you will have to pay the regular single race entry fee. There is NO reversing the transfer.

What if I am unable to run in the race that I am registered for?

For a $50 transfer fee, you may be able to transfer your entry to another race (Season Pass is not eligible).  Please check with registration@triseries.ca

What if I signed for one race but now want to do a relay instead?

A change may be possible depending on the timing.  If a change is possible, you will have to pay the difference in cost and the processing fee (5%).

Once I’ve purchased a season’s pass, how do I tell you which races I want to run?

We will email all seasons pass holders a month before the Shawnigan race (early May) and ask which races you are planning to run this season. You do not have to tell us all of the races that you wish to run at that time, HOWEVER, if you choose to wait than there is the risk of the races filling up and there being no available spots for uncommitted pass holders. Therefore, we STRONGLY recommend that you let us know which races you want to run as soon as possible to avoid any potential disappointment. As a general rule, a month’s notice is usually sufficient to guarantee a spot in any of our races.
