SUBARU SOOKE INTERNATIONAL
HALF and SPRINT TRIATHLON

The Subaru Sooke event will be staged in the charming setting of Sooke, a beautiful ocean-side community located in the western communities of Greater Victoria. The event promises to be a real “rural meets urban” feeling of one of BC’s fastest growing regions. The run course features a journey out on to Whiffin Spit where you will experience being surrounded by the Pacific Ocean with the lighthouse as your beacon.

Event locations: Sooke, BC, Canada (40 Km. West of Victoria)
at Young Lake, 3202 Young Lake Road for the Swim and Bike start
2205 Otter Point for the bike finish, run start and the run finish

Swim: Half = 1.9 KM, Sprint = 500m
Young Lake at Camp Barnard
Swim the calm waters of this picturesque lake in a Scouts Canada camp.
- All Half participants must finish the swim before the cut-off of 8:45AM. There is no cut-off for the Sprint.
- All participants will be given a swim cap that must be worn during the swim.
Bike: Half = 86KM, Sprint = 27KM
Bike on the rolling hills of Otter Point Road, Grant Road and West Coast Road. This will be a 4 loop route for the Half and a single loop for the Sprint that is scenic yet challenging.
- All Half participants must finish the bike before the cut-off of 12:30PM. There is no cut-off for the Sprint.
- Aid Stations: 1 aid station per loop.
Run: Half = 21.1KM, Sprint = 5KM
Run on Sooke downtown streets. The run route will take place on the paved streets of downtown Sooke. This is a spectator friendly course that will showcase the urban side of Sooke. It also features a journey out on to Whiffin Spit where you will experience being surrounded by the Pacific Ocean with the lighthouse as your beacon.
- All Half participants must finish the run before the cut-off of 3:30PM. There is no cut-off for the Sprint.
- Aid Stations at approximately every mile.

Refund Policy:
All entries are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Sorry, refunds are not permitted. Be sure you can and will race prior to registering. The exchange of entries is strictly prohibited.
Online Registration closes on midnight September 10 or sooner if the race fills up. This triathlon is limited to 300 participants.
An additional $10.00 for each participant, or $5.00 for each member of a relay team, will be charged on your entry form if a VALID TriBC# is not provided.

Event Sanctioning:
This event will be sanctioned by Triathlon British Columbia. Triathlon British Columbia rules will apply. Please review all the rules at http://www.tribc.org. HELMETS ARE REQUIRED. Your chin strap must be buckled at all times you are in contact with the bike even in the transition area.
Race Garment:
New Balance Long-Sleeve White Technical Shirt.
Relay Teams:
Teams may consist of two or three members, Team divisions include: male, female and mixed.
- Hand off your timing chip in the transition area at your assigned bike rack
- All relay participants need to be body marked
- Only the runner wears the race bib

Saturday, September 13:
Two options:
1:00PM to 3:30PM, or
5:00PM to 7:00PM
Mandatory Bike Drop & Race Package Pick-Up
- All bikes must be dropped off and secured overnight at Camp Barnard (3202 Young Lake Road).
- The bikes will be kept protected overnight by security.
- The Camp has limited parking, so please try to car-pool.
- Your registration and race package kits including you race garments will be given to you when you drop off the bikes.
- All members of Triathlon British Columbia must present their membership card.
- Everyone must also sign a waiver.
- Your timing chips will be handed out on Sunday morning.

LifeSport Open Water Swim Technique Clinic (FREE)
This short clinic will provide the participants with the knowledge to swim faster in the open water with less effort. Learn from Olympic Gold Medal Coach Lance Watson on topics including warm-ups, starts, sighting, drafting, wetsuit selection, training tips. There will also be information how to transfer pool swimming into the open water and give you some open water workout suggestions that you can implement into your own training.

Sunday, September 14:
Parking & Bus Shuttle:
6:00AM to 7:15AM
- Start your day at Transition #2 (bike to run) at the John Phillips Memorial Park, 2205 Otter Point Road.
- This is where you will park your car for the day; do not park at Camp Barnard.
- You will need to setup your running gear here before you go to the start of the race at Transition #1 at Camp Barnard.
- John Phillips Memorial Park is where you will finish your bike ride, start your run, and finish your race.
- Please try to car-pool or arrange to be dropped-off at John Phillips Memorial Park.
- A bus shuttle will take you to the start of the race at Camp Barnard.
Half Race Schedule:
6:00AM to 7:15AM - Check-in, body marking and Timing Chip pick-up at Camp Barnard
7:30AM - Race Start at Camp Barnard
2:30PM - Half Awards at John Phillips Memorial Park
Sprint Race Schedule:
6:00AM to 8:30AM - Check-in, body marking and Timing Chip pick-up at Camp Barnard
8:45AM - Race Start at Camp Barnard
11:00AM - Sprint Awards at John Phillips Memorial Park
Post Race Info:
Subaru West Coast Triathlon Series Age Group Championship Race
Finisher’s Medals for the Half Only:
All Half Finishers will receive a finisher’s medals.
Awards for Age Groups:
- The Half age categories will be in five year increments
(e.g. Under 24, 25-29, 30-34, etc.)
- The Sprint age categories will be in ten year increments
(e.g. Under 20, 20-29, 30-39, etc.)
- Your age group is determined by your age on December 31, 2008.
Timing & Results:
We will use Chip Timing from Race Headquarters, live timing will be available from the LifeSport website.

From VICTORIA: take Highway 1 and follow signs to Sooke. In Sooke turn right at the 3rd stop light on to Otter Point Road. Stay on Otter Point Road for about 5 Km; turn right on to Young Lake Road. Young
Directions to the John Phillips Memorial Park (Bike to Run - Transition #2):
From VICTORIA: take Highway 1 and follow signs to Sooke. In Sooke turn right at the 3rd stop light on to Otter Point Road. Stay on Otter Point Road for about 500 Meters; the field immediately south of the Sooke District offices, (2205 Otter Point Road), is our Transition #2.
