The camp members and LifeSport staff got together last night at Bongo Ben’s for a social night. There was lots of rehashing of the days events especially the winds out by Hawi.
Today is another beautiful day with lots of sunshine and warm temperature. Looking out from my room in the Royal Kona, you can see hundred of athletes swimming the course.
Walking to the camp this morning, you can feel the tension building. There are a lot more people now that things are starting to ramp up. The massage area is set up next to the swim start, but not many people have discovered it yet. I actually got in for a massage on my shoulder without having to stand in any line up.
The camp today has another swim and many of the camp members are trying out the new full body swim suits. They look a lot like wet suits to me but are legal for this race. Three of our LifeSport Pro Athletes, Katya, Linsey and Haley, joined the camp members in the swim.
The swim today was a testament to the camp as the participants improved their racing skills. With LifeSport Coaches Paul and Mark in kayaks, the group had several simulated swim starts. Participants had learned the basics of drafting, high cadence and sighting and quickly jumped on others feet to take the advantage of the 8% energy saving that drafting offers. They also were much more comfortable with the contact involved and how to handle it. They had also learned to keep their head down and rotate to keep their good body position and put power into their stroke. After the swim, most were surprised they had covered over 3 kilometers of the course.
The camp finished up with some Q & A. All campers left happy with the experience and the new friends they had made. There will be lots of high fives between campers on the run course.
